Performing Arts status of Bishop Walsh School allows us to be a leading edge Dance department. The cross key stage peer assessment that goes on in Dance lessons has been described as ‘outstanding’ and has been showcased at teacher training courses. The department strives to continue to be innovative in its curriculum and encourage pupils to become creative, thinking pupils who are empowered through the vehicle of Dance.
Key Stage 3
All pupils at Bishop Walsh School experience a creative based curriculum in year 7, 8 and 9. Pupils are encouraged to be active in their own learning in Dance and deliver small group work in a contemporary style. Boys and girls alike are enthused by the interactive nature of the curriculum and enjoy learning skills such as: choreography, performance, analytical skills, video and movie editing as well as creating authentic sound scores for their work.
(Project focus ranges from Snowboarding to Physical Theatre)
Pupils in year 7,8 and 9 are encouraged to be part of numerous dance clubs and have the opportunity to perform both inside and outside of BWS. One exceptional opportunity is for pupils to perform live music and dance on tour in Italy.
