Course Entry Requirements:

A grade 5 in Drama or English. You do not need to have studied drama previously before taking it at A-Level.

General Course Description

In Year 12, students complete Component 1 and Component 4 of the course. They explore the work of influential theatre practitioners such as Stanislavski, Brecht, and Artaud, using their techniques to devise an original performance. Students also study a set play, focusing on how to interpret and direct it for an audience. The practical work helps them develop essential performance or design skills, depending on their chosen role.

In Year 13, students complete Component 2 and Component 3. They delve deeper into performance by studying and performing an extract from a complete play. Additionally, students analyse two plays on a chosen theme, developing their understanding of how to interpret texts for performance. They also evaluate live theatre, further refining their analytical and practical theatre skills.

This course is ideal for students who are passionate about theatre, whether as performers or designers. It suits those who enjoy both the creative and analytical aspects of drama, including devising original performances, studying texts, and engaging in live theatre. The course also offers valuable skills for further education and careers.
