BTEC Information Technology
Course Entry Requirements:
A minimum of a grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics, you do not need to have studied computer science but some computer programming knowledge is helpful.
General Course Description:
The course is an excellent introduction for students interested in following a career in: Computer Programming; System Analysis; Network Engineering; Database Management; Graphical Design; Game Design or any other Computer Science related career path. Even if you haven’t studied Computer Science before, if you enjoy problem solving and are logical and good at Maths then this is the right course for you. Studying Computer Science will give you a great head start if you want to go on and study a technology-based subject at a higher level. Many of our students study Maths and Physics alongside A Level Computer Science. Technology is still a growth sector that changes year-on-year. This course will enable you to stay ahead of this change and understand the role technology could play in many walks of life. You will not be limited to a Computer Science career rather you will realise the advantages technology brings to any future career!
A Level Units:
Paper 1: 2.5 hour written exam, Computer Systems (40% of A-level)
Paper 2: 2.5 hour written exam, Algorithms and Programming (40% of A Level)
NEA 3: Project (20% of A Level)
Board: OCR
Career Pathways:
Computing qualifies for UCAS points so it could allow you to study for a degree or BTEC higher diploma in related subjects such as Computer Science or Information Systems. You could also go on to work-based training.
Many Science, Engineering and Maths courses at University now include programming modules for which this course is an ideal preparation.
